Respite Care

Caring for an aging parent or loved one is deeply rewarding. Yet, it’s also demanding, both physically and emotionally. Respite care is short-term, flexible in-home support that ensures expert, compassionate care for someone you love, whether it’s for a few hours, several days, or a few weeks.

Ensuring Continuity and Stability

Maintain familiar routines, surroundings, and interactions even when the primary caregiver is away, reducing anxiety, preserving independence, and nurturing emotional well-being.

Support That Fits Your Life

We provide a qualified, compassionate caregiver carefully matched to meet the unique needs of someone you love. Try our care on your terms, with no long-term commitment, and plenty of compassion.

Comfort of Home at All Times

Short-term care delivered right at home offers seniors the comfort and reassurance of familiar surroundings, helping them maintain their lifestyle and confidence.

Understanding Why Loved Ones Choose Respite Care

Relief for Primary Caregivers

Every caregiver, no matter how committed, needs time to step back and refuel. Whether you’re planning a vacation, travelling for work, or simply needing a break to focus on personal health or family matters, our respite care services provide the coverage you need.

With Assurance Home Care, you can:

  • Step away with confidence, knowing the care of someone you love continues uninterrupted.
  • Recharge emotionally and physically, preventing long-term caregiver fatigue.
  • Return to caregiving refreshed and ready to offer your best.

We match your loved one with trained, compassionate professionals who seamlessly maintain their routines and provide attentive support while you take essential personal time.

Sudden Life Changes

Emergencies and unforeseen events can disrupt even the best-laid caregiving plans. Whether it’s an urgent work commitment, family emergency, or sudden schedule conflict, our respite care team is ready to step in at short notice.

We’re known for responsiveness and flexibility, often coordinating care within just a few days of your request. Our goal is to ensure your loved one’s daily life remains stable, familiar, and comforting, no matter what changes happen around them.

A No-Pressure Trial

If you’re considering full-time live-in care but aren’t quite sure if it’s the right fit, respite care offers a perfect introduction. Think of it as a low-commitment trial:

  • Experience firsthand how our caregivers work.
  • Let someone you love build trust and comfort with new care routines.
  • See if extending services or shifting to hybrid or live-in care makes sense for your family.

Our team will guide you through this exploration, offering flexible options that can expand or adjust based on your needs.

Supporting Medical Recovery

Sometimes the need for short-term care arises after a hospital stay or medical procedure. Whether someone you love needs extra support during recovery, or the primary caregiver falls ill or requires medical attention, our respite services ensure:

  • Routines remain consistent, helping seniors feel secure and cared for.
  • Professional oversight supports recovery and reduces the risks of complications.
  • Families experience less stress, knowing qualified help is handling the details.

We bring the same level of expertise to temporary care as we do to long-term support, ensuring no lapse in attention or quality of care.

Frequently Asked Questions

We know you may still have questions; here are some we often hear:

Respite care is a short-term, temporary form of support. This could mean help for just a few hours a day, coverage for several consecutive days, or even weeks. It ensures that your loved one’s needs—whether medical, emotional, or daily living—continue to be met seamlessly.

Respite care can be scheduled for a wide range of situations:

  • When the primary caregiver takes a vacation or travels for work.
  • During emergencies or family events that pull caregivers away unexpectedly.
  • When the caregiver is recovering from illness or facing personal health issues.
  • To provide extra help during post-hospital recovery or after surgery.
  • As a proactive tool to prevent caregiver burnout or emotional fatigue.

It’s not just about “filling in.” It’s about keeping things stable, safe, and comforting for someone you love during temporary gaps in your usual routine.

Yes, many families use respite care as a no-pressure, short-term trial to explore whether ongoing or live-in care would be a good fit. Respite care is a great way to start the conversation and gather real-world knowledge.

Our coordination team is recognized for its high responsiveness. In most cases, we can mobilize within 24 to 48 hours of your request, depending on the complexity of the care required.

Ontario’s healthcare system may cover limited respite care hours through public programs, but many families opt for private care due to its greater flexibility, responsiveness, and customization. We’re happy to work with you to find a plan that fits your needs and budget.

Respite care covers a wide range of services, including:

  • Personal care: bathing, grooming, hygiene support.
  • Medical or post-surgical support: medication reminders, mobility assistance.
  • Household help: meal preparation, light housekeeping, errands.
  • Companionship: engaging in conversation, playing games, accompanying on walks or outings.
  • Supervision and safety monitoring: ensuring your loved one is safe, comfortable, and engaged.

We tailor each care plan to the individual, so you can feel confident that the specific needs of the person you love are fully met during your time away.

Absolutely. We believe that comfort and trust are essential, even in short-term care situations. Whenever possible, we arrange introductions between caregivers and families ahead of the care period so everyone feels confident and at ease.

Yes. Our caregivers are trained and experienced in providing short-term support for individuals with specialized care needs, including Alzheimer’s, dementia, Parkinson’s, and post-stroke recovery. Whether someone you love needs help with daily living tasks or requires careful supervision and specialized support, we ensure they receive high-quality, personalized care, even during a temporary arrangement.

This agency has got to be the very best I have ever worked for! The compassion, care and empathy this agency shows not only the clients and families but the employed staff as well is superior and exemplary. I was proud to have worked as a nurse for them and I certainly hope our paths cross again.

My 99 year old Mom has been so blessed to be cared for by the loving, kind and caring staff from Assurance home care these past two years. I cannot say enough about how professional, and trustworthy these staff are.
I live a fair distance away and can only come on weekends so it is a huge reassurance to know that these staff are always looking out for my Mom’s best interest. They stay in constant touch with me and accommodate any special requests my Mom needs. She lives in a retirement home where the staff cannot give her the kind of attention she needs. Assurance staff have made it possible for my Mom to “age in place” and not have to go through a traumatic move in her late 90’s. They treat my Mom like their own mother! The owner of Assurance - Kristina has been super supportive, a wealth of information and always available to talk.
This is by far a 10/10 amazing company!!!!

Can’t say enough about the caring and support we’ve had from Assurance provided to my mom over the years. Was a comfort to know she was so well looked after when I couldn’t be there. All her care providers were professional and so compassionate. The coordination team in the office were always helpful and ready with solutions when anything came up or u called in. Communication was outstanding and I always felt well informed. Mom’s dementia has progressed and she will be moving to a care home. We are going to miss everyone very much.

Glaiza was the caregiver who came to stay with my husband, Bill, for 5 nights while I was away. Bill was VERY HAPPY with the care she provided. He was kept clean and fed, and all of his other needs were met as well. Also, when we arrived home the apartment was clean and tidy. We are so thankful that Assurance Home Care was recommended to us, and will continue to use this company, when needed, in the future. An added bonus is that their rates are VERY reasonable.

I was absolutely delighted with the assessment that Kelly did prior to hiring a PSW. She's a very caring and understanding person and had a special touch with my Mother who was very upset. She also was very attentive in finding a good fit for my her. The PSW's provided the extra support and assurance to my Mother that she was safe and everything would be ok and tended to her needs. I would recommend Assurance Home Care to anyone who needs extra support for their loved one.
